Mr. Brainwash Art Show 2011

Earlier this year I kept hearing about Invader, Shepard Fairey, Banksy and Mr. Brainwash. Ummm...who??? Street artists that I had no clue about but they seemed to be the topic of conversation amongst many friends and colleagues. It wasn't until I watched the documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop that I became more in the know and was intrigued. Street art is all around Los Angeles but for me it usually starts to blur together and I tend to miss it.

After watching the film I began to see pieces scattered across town that on most days I would have passed over without a second thought. It was exciting to open my eyes for a second and see things that are somewhat hidden at times or make you stop and think.

I had missed Mr. Brainwash's first show so when I found out that his art show was opening up Christmas day this year I knew I had to see it. As usual I knew I could count on Angelic to join me. Thanks Ang!

Now, I'll be the first to admit that I have not the slightest clue about the social meaning of any piece of art. So for the purposes of this blog I will stick to what I know and that is generalized descriptive words like "cool", "awesome", "big", "colorful", etc.

To sum it up - the show was AWESOME! Below are a few images I snapped to give you a better idea of what I mean.

{There were several stories of art in this building. Practically ever inch was covered.}

{Great mottos to live by}

{L - Ang getting some dough from the ATM conveniently located outside}
{R - And you thought regular boom boxes were huge!}

{L - John and Yoko}
{R - Michael was made completely out of vinyl}

{L - Bleeding heart}
{R - Life is beautiful. A big piece with a big message. I loved it!}

Mr. Brainwash's show goes until tomorrow (1/2/12). If you are in town go check it out! It definitely is a sight to see.
